What to Pack for Your Child's First Swimming Lesson

The first swimming lesson is a big deal. New environment, new teacher, new skills — and a slightly anxious parent trying to remember if they packed everything. We have been there. Here is the complete checklist so you can focus on cheering them on.

The Checklist

**In the pool bag:** - Swimsuit or trunks (already wearing if possible) - Silicone swim cap — fitted before you leave the changing room - Swimming goggles — anti-fog lenses are worth the extra spend - Towel — a large, quick-dry towel works best - Flip flops for the poolside - Waterproof bag for wet kit after the lesson

**After the lesson:** - Warm, easy-to-pull-on clothes — little fingers are cold and tired - A snack — swimming burns real energy and they will be hungry - A warm drink in cooler months

Tips for the Changing Room

Arrive 15 minutes early for the first lesson. Changing rooms with young children always take longer than expected. Get the cap and goggles on in the changing room so your child arrives at the pool ready to go, not fiddling with kit on the poolside.

Goggles — Worth It or Not?

Absolutely worth it from day one. Children who can open their eyes underwater progress significantly faster than those who cannot.
